Information about the 2026 Parish Council election

The next Parish Council election is due to be held on Thursday 7th May 2026.

There are five Parish Councillor positions to be filled.

The Notice of Election will be posted on the noticeboards on Monday 30th March.  From then until 4pm on Thursday 9th April, nomination packs for people willing to become parish councillors can be completed and returned to WODC in Witney (by hand).

Nomination packs can be obtained from the Clerk or directly from the WODC Woodgreen office.

Who can stand at the election?

To stand for election, candidates must:

  • be a British, Irish, Commonwealth, qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights
  • be 18 or over on the date of signing the nominationand meet at least on of the four following qualifications:
  • be on the register of electors
  • occupy land in the parish as an owner or tenant
  • have their principal or only place of work in the parish
  • live in the parish or within 3 miles of it

• Disqualifications – the nomination pack includes the reasons for disqualification

Election

If there are at least three nominations but no more than five, then the election is “uncontested”, and those nominated automatically become the councillors from May.

If there are more than five nominations, an election will be held on Thursday 7th May, with the count taking place on Friday 8th May.
